Within the implementation of the “SPbSPU Development Program”, Polytechnical University is undergoing various structural changes: in 2010 while completing the first stage of the program, Joint Science and Technology Institute (JIST) was established. Its foundation started a new stage in Polytechnical University innovation infrastructure development.


JIST objective – concentration and focusing of intellectual, material, financial and human resources on  the breakthrough innovative and technological areas  for establishing a  mechanism, which gives an opportunity  to rapidly transform scientific research results  and know-how of domestic scientists into the final product  for the market entry.


Programs 2010-2019:  



Currently JIST consists of innovation and research scientific institutes equipped with advanced facility and possessing high-qualified scientific and engineering manpower. Each Research Institute is consolidated by the common science and technology platform and includes branches, departments, centres and laboratories established on the basis of various University faculties and structural units.

JIST also includes units and departments, ensuring the work of the whole complex of scientific areas of the university:


  • Testing Center “Polytechtest”
  • Centre “Industrial X-Ray Tomography”
  • Education, Science and Production Laboratory “Cryogenic Engineering”
