In December delegations from the Wilhelm Leibniz University (Hanover), DFG, German Research Foundation and the DAAD German Academic Exchange Service visited the Polytechnic University.

German Delegations in SPbGPU The delegation consisted of Dr. Jörn Achterberg, the Head of DFG Representative Office in Russia; Michael Lentze, DFG Programme Officer, Engineering Sciences; Professors of the Wilhelm Leibniz University L. Overmeyer and R. Säume; Dr. Michael Kleineberg, the Head of DAAD Information Centre in St. Petersburg. The aim of the visit of such substantial delegation from Germany was acquaintance with the Polytechnic University and discussion of cooperation directions in the areas of science and education.

During the official meeting with SPbGPU Rector, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences A.I. Rudskoy the parties discussed the prospects of mutually beneficial cooperation. In his words of welcome the Rector particularly expressed the wish to develop mutually advantageous cooperation between the institutions and the readiness to establish direct contacts with DFG while continuing implementation of joint projects with DAAD.

Within the scope of the visit our German colleagues met representatives of SPBGPU leading research centres in the International Activities Resource Centre. In the course of the working meeting Dr. J. Achterberg and M. Lentze told about the main lines of DFG activities in Russia: support of research projects and cooperation between Russian and German scientists. This support allows scholarship holders to participate in joint activities, seminars and conferences, as well as contributes to mobility of researchers.

At the Distributed Intelligent Systems Department of the Institute of International Educational Programs a working meeting with Professor L. Overmeyer took place, where, in particular, the joint double degree master programme in Informatics and Computer Science and Mechatronics was discussed. At the Turbine Motors and Installations Department of the Faculty of Power Engineering a working meeting with Professor R. Säume was organized during which the colleagues considered development of joint postgraduate training programmes and analyzed the results of the current joint research activities. Also there were coordinated the key scientific fields, cooperation in which is of great importance and high priority for the future work.

We'd like to note that development and strengthening of relations with universities, institutions and companies in Germany is one of priority directions of SPbGPU international cooperation. Currently the Polytechnic University cooperates with 36 German universities.
