On September 17, the workshop Industrial day «Laser technology in the industry" was held at the Russian-German Laser Technologies Center of SPbSPU.

The main objective of the organizers - the Institute of Laser and Welding Technologies (ILWT) was the acquaintance of representatives of the industrial enterprises with the center's equipment and its capabilities, as well as current trends of laser technology usage in the industry.

At the workshop, industrialists of Saint-Petersburg met the representatives of the companies, working in the field of establishment and development of laser materials processing technologies. So, Peter Hoffman of the «Erlas» company shown on the example of the details of Volkswagen gearbox, how to use the remote laser welding in engineering. The representative of the «Rofin» company - Wolfram Rath demonstrated the possibility of using lasers with high beam quality, and the employee of the «Jenoptik» company - Anton Rogachev told about the modern robotic systems for laser cutting of metals and plastics.

The general development tendencies of laser technology in the industry were discussed. Thus, Ruslan Mys of the Bavarian Laser Center spoke about the means of establishment working relationship between the production companies and the research centers, including the technical universities. At the end of the workshop, a tour to the Russian-German Laser Center was organized for the participants, and they managed to see the unique equipment of the RGCLT.

According to the Dean of the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology, the Director of Russian-German Laser Technology Center professor Gleb A. Turichin said that during the workshop arrangements of cooperation were reached between RGCLT and industrial enterprises. The delivery issues of laser equipment to the companies, which participated in the workshop were also discussed. Of course, such activities contribute to strengthening and development of scientific and technical communication and joint projects. The possibility of making the workshop an annual event was also discussed.

The Russian-German Laser Technology Center of SPbSPU was established at the Institute of Laser and Welding Technologies (RGCLT) in 2009 with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science in framework of an agreement between Russia and Germany on scientific and technical cooperation in the field of laser technology. With the opening of the center, appeared the possibility of permanent presence of foreign manufacturers of laser equipment of the world level in Saint-Petersburg.
