Congratulations on winning the contest of projects!

Peter V. Trifonov

Associate professor of the department “Distributed Computing and Networking "Peter V. Trifonov became the winner of the program SAMSUNG Global Research Outreach (GRO). The Program of scientific researches support, conducted by the Institute of advanced technology Samsung (SAIT) in 2009.


The research project of Peter Trifonov "Generalized cascade polar codes" was named the winner, among the other prominent studies conducted by various universities. In 2012, applications were submitted in 15 scientific fields and more than 70 themes. Several hundred projects were considered in the frameworks of this contest.

 

Among 86 winning project, the majority of the them were represented by the universities and colleges of the United States of America. It is particularly gratifying to say that among four winners from Russia, Saint-Petersburg State Polytechnical University was the only Russian university. Three other Russian winning project were presented by the scientists from institutes of the Academy of Sciences.

 

Peter Trifonov’s project is dedicated to building and decoding of polar codes, which are the first class of error-correcting codes, reaching a bandwidth of broad class of communication channels.

 

In the department "Distributed Computing and Networking" of the Faculty of Computer Science (Chair-Prof. Y. Karpov) conducted research in various fundamental issues of computer science, including verification of formal models of the systems, coding theory, mathematical modeling, etc.
