Centennial Anniversary of Partner University

2011 is a year of centennial anniversary of the Tsinghua University, one of the largest universities of the world.


The anniversary was widely celebrated not only in PRC, but in many other countries as well, where live and work its alumni:

– in Germany, United Kingdom, USA, and Japan. The delegation from SPbSPU headed by prof. V.V. Korablev  participated in the festive ceremony dedicated to the centenary of the Tsinghua. Our university made a symbolic gift to the Tsinghua University

– a tree planted in the university’s garden.


In June, SPbSPU received a formal visit of a delegation from the Tsinghua University headed by its rector Gu Binlin. At  the meeting with the University president, Yu.S. Vasiliev, vice-rector V.V. Glukhov, and other staff scientists, the Chinese delegation discussed a range of issues, including strengthening of further collaboration ties between SPbSPU and Tsinghua, involvement of young specialists in scientific research. The priorities of both universities include information technologies, nano-technologies, medical equipment.


Integration of the two countries’ resources


On the eve of the centennial anniversary of the Tsinghua University, the Institute of Strategic Collaboration between   China and Russia (ISCCR) was established based on the initiative of the largest Russian higher-education institutions, including the Far East Institute of RAS, Moscow State University of M.V. Lomonosov, SPbSPU, and Moscow State University of Railway Communications.


The main goals of the Strategic Collaboration Institute include:


- Integration of intellectual, scientific, informational and material resources of the two countries within the main aspects of the scientific/educational activities pursued by the Tsinghua University;

- Performance of strategic research in humanitarian, technical and scientific spheres between China and Russia;

- Encouragement of collaboration and training exchanges; close integration of the system for personnel preparation and scientific research;

- Organization of a two-way transfer, and introduction of high-tech systems furthering the innovation progress of  industrial/technological industry branches of Russia and China.


Historical Reference


Collaboration between the Polytechnic University and Tsinghua University started in 1950s. Specialists of the  Polytechnic University designed and commissioned in China new laboratories, provided training, supervised postgraduates’ and students scientific activities. In 1987, a bilateral agreement was signed between the Universities.


Over the period 1995-2011, over 150 Russian and Chinese scientists provided their lectures, conducted researches, and participated in scientific conferences of partner institutions. Over the latter years, the collaboration has been considerably expanded. Thus, the Center for Cultural Research and Exchanges between China and Russia has been opened within the Tsinghua University with participation of SPbSPU; the Polytechnic University successfully  collaborates with the Center in the transfer of the technologies between organizations in Russia and China.


Tsinghua Today


Today, over 7,500 employees work in the Tsinghua, with over 20,000 students, postgraduates and doctoral candidates.


The university consists of 56 departments constituting a system of 14 institutes, including a graduate school, and the adjustment training institute. The Tsinghua prepares baccalaureate in 58 specialties, and masters in 159 specialties, and in 123 specialties there is a possibility for defending a doctoral thesis.
