International Scientific Laboratory Opened at SPbSPU

Unique Russian-Norwegian scientific research laboratory for the Impulse techniques applied in underwater oil/gas  extraction was established in SPbSPU on June 21. It is a joint project developed by specialists of SPbSPU and FMC Technologies and Statoil ASA companies (Norway).

 

International Scientific Laboratory Opened at SPbSPUThe specialists of the laboratory will deal with the issues related to analysis and safety of oil/gas extraction in the  Russian northern latitudes, as well as development of new units preventing emergencies, and anthropogenic  accidents (similar to the oil spill in the Mexican Gulf).

 

The laboratory’s opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Rune Osheim, consul of the Kingdom of Norway in St. Petersburg, A.I. Rudskoy, rector of SPbSPU, associate professor of RAS, and representatives of Norwegian  companies (Ms. Kristina Johansen, director of the Technological Center for the Eastern region (FMC), Mr. Gustav Rundgren, head of the Underwater system technologies department (Statoil), etc.), representatives from rector’s office, departments and international services of the University.

 

Speaking at the laboratory’s opening ceremony, rector of SPbSPU, A.I. Rudskoy congratulated the audience and expressed that it was particularly significant that the laboratory had been established by the companies that had  already tested reliability of the university as an institution of higher education and a scientific center for a period of more than 10 years.

 

“It is a high honor for us to open one more laboratory, now in a triple alliance. I believe it will be a mutually advantageous collaboration. The most important point is that this collaboration will contribute not only  intergovernmental relations, but also provide for expansion of scientific and educational contacts with colleagues from FMC and Statoil.”

 

His position was supported by Mr. Rune Osheim, consul of Norway in St. Petersburg: The St. Petersburg State  Polytechnic University is one of the best in the city, country, both in terms of learning, and its sphere of scientific  research. Therefore, one can only welcome any practical collaboration between two leading Norwegian companies and the University.
