Agreement Concluded between SPbGPU and the Lappeenranta University of Technology

 

Master double degree programs will be practiced in the National Research University of SPbGPU (NIU SPbGPU) in cooperation with the Lappeenranta University of Technology. The corresponding agreement was signed in December, 2011.

 

Agreement Concluded between SPbGPU and the Lappeenranta University of Technology  The working meeting of A.I. Rudskoy, Rector of SPbGPU, Correspondent Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, with the delegation from the Lappeenranta University of Technology (Finland), headed by the President Ilkka Pöyhönen, took place on the 8th of December, 2011. The visit of colleagues from Finland was aimed at discussing the future cooperation between the universities in the filed of science, education and innovations.

 

In the course of the meeting 3 documents were signed: the Framework Agreement (the already existing one was prolonged), the Contract on Academic Exchange, and the Agreement on Cooperation in the Filed of Education and Double Degree Programs.

 

During the working meeting the Rector of SPbGPU expressed confidence, that fruitful cooperation with the Lappeenranta University of Technology will continue and develop with success: 'Creation of a frontier university is a good example of cooperation between several institutions of higher education in Finland and Russia. It shows that we can effectively collaborate in the filed of educational programs. We consider the next step – Finish-Russian Innovative University – to be positive. The Innovative University is meant to include not only educational programs, but also large-scale collaboration in the field of scientific and innovative developments, creation of cooperation means aimed at development of frontier regions of Russia and Finland'.

 

'One of the most burning issues in Finland is the way of use of common infrastructure by the universities. This issue may give us more opportunities for cooperation. We already have a number of existing platforms which will be used as a basis for further development. We are very glad that we got along to cooperate', – said Ilkka Pöyhönen, the LUT President.

 

The Agreement on Academic Cooperation and Double Degree Programs covers the following disciplines and fields: energy technologies, chemical machine construction, machine construction, technical mathematics and technical physics, industry management, informational technologies, innovations. This concerns master programs. Upon graduation of such program the graduate will get two diplomas at once: one of SPbGPU and the other of LUT. The students of the Polytechnic University admitted to the master program in LUT can apply for a scholarship. The amount of the scholarship will be discussed for each student separately. The Agreement on Double Degree will be in force within the academic year 2012-2013.
