The studies conducted in the SEC "Laser Technologies" are  focused on the development of physical and technical  basis of laser and hybrid laser-arc technologies of  steels and light alloys welding, using high-power fiber lasers.

The object of the study of R&D are the processes of defects formation  in the welding seam body in laser and hybrid laser-arc welding, as well as monitoring and control of technological hybrid laser-arc processes of  materials processing in real-time operation mode.

 

As a result of fulfilled projects, the following will be developed:

  • the theory of defects formation in the welding seam body in laser and hybrid laser-arc welding;
  • algorithms of  dynamic processes monitoring  in the weld pool, which allow to minimize  the instability melt, leading to the formation of the defects;
  • technological guidelines for  monitoring of laser-arc welding processes;
  • hardware and software system for monitoring and control of laser and laser-arc process.

 

During the implementation of the  projects, modern experimental research methods are used, such as high-speed filming, quantitative metallography, quantitative X-ray analysis, thermography, as well as methods of theoretical and mathematical physics, computational gas dynamics, theory of phase transitions  and computer simulations.  To conduct the field experiments on laser and laser-arc welding, the technological base of Russian-German Laser Technology Center of SPbSPU and laboratory of high-power fiber lasers of the REC "Laser Technologies" are used.

The results of theoretical and experimental researches and engineering development confirm the possibility of successful projects execution.

 

Implementation of these projects involved the research works of students, postgraduates, young specialists and candidates. This subject  possess great scientific and technological capabilities, and the results of  R&D can be used in the preparation  of scientific articles by young scientists,  reports at the conferences  and workshops of  qualification works (graduation projects, master, PhD and doctoral thesis). Youth participation in the world-class researches can significantly increase the scientific and employees’ potential of the educational center.
